KANPUR, Sept. 30 -- Sporting Team India's blue jersey has always been the biggest dream of a sportsperson and they feel proud to represent the country in an international event. Young all-rounder Vipraj Nigam isn't different and he feels that sporting the blue jersey for India A will be one of the biggest moments of his career. Nigam, a lad from Barabanki, almost 28 km from state capital, will get the opportunity to play for India A against Australia A in the three-day one-day series, beginning Tuesday at the Green Park Stadium here in Kanpur and one of the young talents of this year's Indian Premier League is excited to play in the first match itself. "The IPL (for Delhi Capitals) and UPTwenty20 League (for Lucknow Falcons) have boosted my confidence, and I am ready to give my best, if given the opportunity," Nigam, 20, told HT after Shreyas Iyer-led India A finished their pre-match training on Monday under the lights. "It's really a dream come true for me and I am really excited and raring to go. In the last three days during the training session with everyone, I have learnt many things and I am sure this will help me give my best in future matches too," said Nigam. "Preparations are good in the last three days and I am learning new things in association with other players, especially under our coach Rishikesh Kanitkar Sir. I have been a regular player at this ground as I have been playing most of my domestic matches here on the black soil pitch," he said, adding, "Experience of playing on this surface will certainly help me do better here against Australia A." He, however, said that playing the 50-over format is something different for a cricketer who has been playing T20 cricket on a regular basis in the recent past. "There is not a big difference, and it's only the difference of mental set up as here you get to bowl 10 overs and even wait for your shot selections," said Nigam, who has so far taken 36 wickets for Uttar Pradesh in all three formats, including four wickets in five List A matches. "The 50-over match also requires one to play patiently and stay focused. Since you have to bowl 10 overs, you have to have variations in your bowling. I mean, you can't do anything quickly as you have to give it some time," he further said, adding, "Any format of cricket is exciting and I enjoy all the three formats as every format compels you to plan differently." Nigam, whose journey in cricket has not been easy so far as he was dropped from the UP's CK Nayudu Under-23 side in 2023 even after taking seven wickets in the last match, but it didn't dampen his spirit and after being called back in the side, he excelled both with ball and willow. In his debut season in the IPL, he impressed everyone both with his batting and bowling, especially leg spin. While playing for Delhi Capitals, Nigam not only took 11 wickets in 14 matches, but also scored 142 runs, including a match-winning 39....
