UP's transmission utility among best in India: Min
LUCKNOW, Dec. 18 -- Energy minister AK Sharma on Wednesday said that the UP Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (UPPTCL) had established itself among the leading transmission utilities in India.
Addressing a workshop on reforms in power transmission as the chief guest here, he said UP consistently recorded the highest peak power demand in the country in recent years and successfully met a maximum demand of 31,486 mw, reflecting the robustness of the state's transmission infrastructure, improved planning and enhanced technical efficiency.
The minister said the energy sector in UP had undergone a historic transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
Significant changes, he said, had taken place across generation, transmission and distribution, enabling power supply to nearly 1.5 lakh villages and habitations that earlier lacked electricity access.
Emphasising the state's role in clean energy, Sharma said India was rapidly advancing in green and solar energy, with installed solar capacity nearing 130 gw, to which Uttar Pradesh had made a substantial contribution. He added that UP ranked second nationally in the development of the Green Energy Corridor and that a strong transmission system would be critical to achieving the country's Net Zero target by 2070.
Alongside achievements, the minister flagged key challenges, particularly the need to eliminate electrical accidents through modern technology, advanced equipment and safer work practices. He also underlined emerging concerns related to cyber data and cyber security, calling for a more secure and future-ready transmission system....
