UP's Mansi Singh wins women's singles title
LUCKNOW, Sept. 20 -- Top seed Mansi Singh of Uttar Pradesh defeated Surya of Andhra Pradesh 21-16, 18-21, 21-18 to win the women's singles title at the All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament.
Tenth seed Bharat Raghav of Haryana won the men's singles title without playing even a single shot as his opponent and 12th seed Maisnam Meiraba of Manipur didn't turn up for the match due to injury.
In the mixed doubles, qualifiers Bijon Jaison and Diya Bhimaiah defeated the duo of Dileepan V. and Pranavi N 17-21, 22-20, 21-14. The men's doubles title went to Maharashtra's Viplav Kuvale and Viraj Kuvale, who defeated Siddharth Elango and Santosh Gajendran 21-16, 21-10.
In the women's doubles final, top seeds Shikha Gautam and Ashwini Bhatt of Karnataka defeated qualifiers Aditi Bhatt and Shravani Walekar 21-14, 21-14.
Two shooters from Lucknow's Hawk Institute of Shooting won a gold and a silver medal at the UP State Shooting Championship at Jaipur. Director of Hawk Institute of Shooting, Meenu Jalan informed that one of the trainees Akash Kumar won the gold medal in his category with 396 points, whereas Shikhar Singh won the silver medal with 621.8 points. "Numerous shooters associated with this academy have been winning medals at state and national level competitions. Many of our athletes have reached the Indian team trials and have also secured their place in prestigious competitions," she said....
