UP's challenge ends in Cooch Behar Trophy
LUCKNOW, Dec. 28 -- Finally, it was the end of the road for former champions UP in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy as on Saturday their four-day pre-quarterfinal match ended in a tame draw with opponents Rajasthan taking 316-run first innings lead and qualified for the quarterfinals.
After skittling out hosts Uttar Pradesh for 178 in their first innings, Rajasthan declared their first innings at 494/9 only on the final day of the game on Saturday. In reply, UP scored 166/7 in 45 overs before the two umpires decided to end the game.
Resuming at 450/6, Rajasthan batters went on adding 44 runs to their overnight score. Naved Khan, who was batting at 166 last evening, finally got out for 183, which came off 228 balls with the help of 18 boundaries and eight sixes.
It was just a formality for UP when they came to bat in their second innings. After losing opener Noushran in the fifth over, UP kept losing wickets on regular intervals before being reduced to 47/5. Aditya Kumar Singh (6) and K Krishna (12) remained unbeaten when the match ended. Pacer Honey Pratap Singh took 4/27, whereas Jatin bagged 3/45 for Rajasthan.
With this loss, UP's challenge in the under-19 category came to an end this domestic season as in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, they too had failed to qualify even for the knockout this October....
