UP off to a poor start vs Mumbai on Day 2
LUCKNOW, Jan. 13 -- Former champions Uttar Pradesh were off to a poor start in their run-chase in the first innings against Mumbai on the second day of their four-day quarterfinal of the Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy, at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Anand on Monday.
In reply to Mumbai's mammoth first innings total of 633/8, Uttar Pradesh were 10/1 in 5.3 overs when the stumps were drawn on Monday evening.
Opener Kamra Ali (4) was trapped leg before wicket by Vedant Gore in the sixth over. Hitesh Kumar (2) was batting at the crease.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh bowlers continued to suffer even on Day Two before the Mumbai batters, who after resuming at the overnight score of 333/5, went on posting a huge total.
Overnight batters Gadoya went on adding 52 runs to his last night score 89 to score 213-ball 141 with the help of 18 hits to the fence, whereas other batter Karthik smashed his maiden unbeaten double hundred, scoring 200 in 312 balls with the help of 25 boundaries and two sixes.
Both Gadoya and Karthik showed grit and detrminating with willow and kept Uttar Pradesh bowlers at bay for a long time.
Whereas Gadoya chose to hit poor deliveries, Karthik showed no mercy to Uttar Pradesh bowlers, hitting them all parts of the ground throughout his innings.
The two added 229 runs for the sixth wicket. Kartik also added an unbeaten 107 runs for the ninth wicket as Mumbai declared their first innings at 633/8 in 168.1 overs. Kamran Ali remained the most successful bowler, bagging 4/117, whereas Prithvijar Singh took 2/136. Aarav Tyagi and Rudra Sharma shared two wickets between them....
