LUCKNOW, Nov. 19 -- Last year's semi-finalist and hosts Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday crushed Chandigarh by an innings and 176 runs in their opening league match of the Elite Group D in the Cooch Behar Trophy, at the newly built Solitaire Cricket Ground in Saharanpur Uttar Pradesh bowlers led by Kartikey Varshney removed the remaining five wickets in Chandigarh's second innings to get the rivals out for 191 in 60 overs. Chandigarh scored just 61 in their first innings, whereas Uttar Pradesh posted a huge 431 in their first innings. On Tuesday, Chandigarh needed 367 more runs to overpower Uttar Pradesh's first innings total on the penultimate day of the four-day encounter after resuming at the overnight score of 89/5, but the remaining five batters could add 102 runs to their overnight score. Both captain-keeper Ehit Salaria and Aditya though stitched together 85 runs for the sixth wicket, but once Aditya departed in the 54th over, all efforts of remaining Chandigarh batters almost came to an end with Salaria being the last man out on the last ball of the 60th over. Before being run out by Anmol Noushran, energetic Salaria scored 53 in 114 balls with the help of four boundaries and two sixes. It was Varshney, who led Chandigarh's demolition on Tuesday, bagging 3/15 in nine overs. Yash Panwar finished with 3/28, whereas Aayan Akram, Aditya Kumar Singh and Ravi Saini shared three wickets between them. Varshney had the first wicket of the day, getting Aditya caught by Kaif Rehman. The batter scored 63-ball 50 with the help of seven boundaries and a six. Thereafter, there was no resistance from Chandigarh batters as Akram castled Mohd Zaidi on duck and then Varshney trapped Ishaan leg before wicket also on duck....
