LUCKNOW, April 3 -- With a mission to make a podium finish Uttar Pradesh team for the 16th Hockey India Sub-Junior Men's National Championship on Thursday left for Rajgir (Bihar) where the event will take place. Besides distributing kits to the players and support staff, UP Hockey chief RP Singh and secretary, Rajneesh Mishra interacted with players and gave important tips for winning. The team comprises talented players selected from various districts across the state, who will represent Uttar Pradesh on the strength of their exceptional performance. The team included Ankit Yadav, Kislay, Romit Pal, Sunil Pal, Pradeep Yadav, Rahul Yadav, Rahul Patel, Harsh Pratap Singh, Ketan Kushwaha, Shahrukh Ali, Prahlad Rajbhar, Nitish Yadav, Danish, Raghavendra Singh Chauhan, Shivam Yadav, Suryamani Maurya, Karan Dhanuk, and Akib Rayani. Former India hockey player RP Singh, who is now contributing to the promotion of the sport as a sports administrator, has been invited to select the Indian team for the upcoming FIH Men's Hockey World Cup and the Asian Games. As a crucial step toward selecting the Indian squad for these two major international tournaments, trials will be held at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru on April 3 and 4. Hockey India's director general, Commander RK Srivastava states on Thursday. In addition to serving as Hockey India's chief selector, RP Singh also holds the position of director of sports for Uttar Pradesh. Upon assuming this responsibility, he described it as a significant undertaking. "These trials would serve as the mechanism for selecting players for the upcoming national training camp and for providing them with international exposure," he said. Prior to the final team selection, these prospective candidates will undergo rigorous training and receive international exposure to ensure that only the very best players are chosen for the Indian squad. The 36th Junior State UP Basketball Championship for girls will be played from April 11 to 14 at Prayagraj. Selection of the Lucknow team will take place on Friday. The player's date of birth must be on or after January 1, 2008. The Lucknow athletics team for the 24th UP State Junior Federation Athletics Championship was selected on Thursday. The selected under-20 men's and women's teams will participate in the 24th UP State Junior Federation Athletics Championship, scheduled to be held in Prayagraj on April 8 and 9.
