UP man held for killing 35-yr-old, stealing Rs.20K
Haridwar, Feb. 23 -- A 26-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district has been arrested for allegedly murdering a 35-year-old resident of Manglaur and fleeing with Rs.20,000 in cash, police said on Sunday. The accused, Vinayak Tyagi, was arrested on Saturday near the Deoband tri-intersection in a joint operation by Manglaur police and the crime investigation unit, police said.
Senior superintendent of police Navneet Singh said the accused attacked the victim with a heavy stone after offering him liquor and later fled with the cash. "Tyagi was travelling from Roorkee to Muzaffarnagar on February 17 and stopped near a country liquor shop close to Manglaur bus station. The shop was closed at the time. Around the same time, the victim, Pradeep Kumar arrived at the spot to purchase liquor. The two began conversing while waiting. Tyagi offered Pradeep a ride on his motorcycle to another liquor outlet at Rampur Chungi. After purchasing liquor, they decided to drink together and went towards a secluded orchard near the canal stretch," the SSP said.
During their interaction, Kumar reportedly mentioned that he was carrying Rs.20,000 in cash.
"Eyeballing the money, the accused deliberately made the victim consume more liquor. When Pradeep was intoxicated, Tyagi struck him with a heavy stone, killing him on the spot, and escaped with the cash," Singh added....
