LUCKNOW, July 14 -- The Uttar Pradesh government is working to revive 75 small and tributary rivers across the state through a coordinated, technology-driven campaign. Acting on the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a strategic plan has been implemented with support from 10 departments and leading technical institutions, a state government spokesperson said. Divisional-level monitoring committees, led by respective Divisional Commissioners, have been formed to ensure quality and timely execution. Institutions like IIT Kanpur, IIT BHU, IIT Roorkee, and BBAU Lucknow are providing river-specific plans based on ecological and geographical studies. Initially launched in 2018 under MGNREGA, the campaign now includes stream cleaning, rainwater harvesting, water channeling, and plantation drives. Ten departments-including Irrigation, Forest, Fisheries, and Rural Development-are working together at the district level.
