The first breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Satyam Pandey converted a penalty corner to give Uttar Pradesh the lead (1-0). Their advantage doubled in the 47th minute as Akash Pal scored a fine goal, stretching the lead to 2-0. Hockey Madhya Pradesh managed to score a consolation through a penalty stroke in the 60th minute, but Uttar Pradesh's solid defense ensured a safe passage into the last four.
