Lucknow, Nov. 19 -- President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday honoured districts with outstanding work in the field of water conservation at the sixth National Water Awards (2024) ceremony on Tuesday, with Uttar Pradesh achieving unprecedented success. Mirzapur secured first place in the Northern Region, Varanasi second, and Jalaun third. Gorakhpur also received the third prize among the top 10 municipal corporations in the country in the Water Conservation Public Participation category. Varanasi district's key initiatives in the field of water conservation have been particularly commendable. Over 25,000 water harvesting structures were constructed in the district, significantly improving groundwater levels.
