UP crosses 40L smart meter installations
Lucknow, Sept. 21 -- More than 40 lakh smart meters across the state, including 45,966 meters in all government offices up to the block level, have been installed in Uttar Pradesh so far, UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) chairman Ashish Goyal said, adding that of them, 37,614 had been converted to prepaid mode.
"Consumers can now monitor their hourly consumption through UPPCL's authorised mobile application 'Smart Consumer App', identify high-consumption appliances, recharge from home, and exercise better control over power usage and bills," he said. Reviewing progress with a meter installation company here on Saturday, Goyal directed faster execution. The state, he said, had set a target of installing 2.73 crore smart meters for improved consumer services.
"A special drive on August 20 found 100% smart meters functioning correctly, countering misconceptions that they run fast or show inflated bills," he said.
Meanwhile, the Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti has urged the corporation to withdraw all "harassment actions" against employees before the festive season and release salaries withheld under the facial attendance system.
"Before Navratri, all punitive actions taken against employees during protests should be rolled back, and withheld wages must be released. At the same time, the decisions to privatise Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal discoms should be cancelled to create a healthy work atmosphere," said committee convenor Shailendra Dubey....
