LUCKNOW, Oct. 14 -- The poor run of former champions Uttar Pradesh continued in the Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy as they lost to Rajasthan by two wickets in their third match of an Elite Group E encounter on Monday, at the JSCA Oval Ground in Ranchi. Having lost to Punjab by 16 runs in the previous league match after notching up a thumping 84-run win over Maharashtra in their opening match of the season, Uttar Pradesh lost out even after having a solid start against Rajasthan on Monday. First the batters failed to capitalize on a good start and could make 238 in 49.5 overs while batting first after winning the toss. Later, bowlers too looked struggling against Raajstahn batters, who romped home with one ball to spare, losing eight wickets. Aditya Kumar Singh (2/45) and Aayan Akram (2/51) shared four wickets between them, whereas Dakshh Chandel, Shanthanu Singh, Karikey Varshney and Bhavi Sharma shared four wickets between them. Harsh Dagdi struck 94-ball 61 with the help of three boundaries and two sixes, whereas Jaywardhan Singh (31), Kushagra Ojha (31), Anas (21) and Rajat Baghel (21) were the main run getters for Rajasthan. Earlier, it was a perfect start for Uttar Pradesh as inform batters Shanthanu Singh (45, 27b, 4x4, 4x6) and Yashu Pradhan (36, 41b, 4x4, 2x6) added 56 runs for the opening wicket, and thereafter a 44-run second wicket stand between Singh and skipper Bhavy Goyal (30, 41b, 4x4, 1x6) further strengthened UP's innings as scoreboard read 100/2 in 14.4 overs. But thereafter, wickets started falling on regular intervals with Aayan Akram (5), Madhav Vashistha (2), Kartikey Varsheny (1), Piyush Choudhary (5) and Dakshh Chandel (0) found it hard to keep the scoreboard ticking. Kaartikaya Singh (48, 68b, 1x4, 1x6), Bhavi Sharma (27, 44b, 1x4, 1x6) and Aditya Kumar Singh (31, 38b, 4x4) tried their best but they could never lift the scoring rate above five runs per over. With just four points in three matches so far, now Uttar Pradesh take on Delhi in their next league match on Wednesday. Meanwhile, former runners-up Uttar Pradesh faced their first defeat in the Senior Women's T20 as on Monday they went down fighting to Baroda by just 16 runs in their Elite Group A encounter, at the IS Bindra Cricket Stadium in Mohali. While batting first after winning the toss, Baroda went on posting a challenging 174/2. In reply, Uttar Pradesh could make 158/6....
