LUCKNOW, Oct. 11 -- Spirited Uttar Pradesh boys won the Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship, defeating Jharkhand 60-58 in a thrilling final at the indoor hall of the Parade Ground in Dehradun on Friday. UP boys turned the tables in the final four and a half minutes, notching up a win in style to win the trophy. Though Jharkhand managed a six-point lead in the final moments and a half minutes, UP boys made a comeback and equalized it quickly. In the last 35 seconds, UP fetched two additional points, snatching victory from Jharkhand and achieving the distinction of becoming champions for the second consecutive time. Sahil scored 18 points and Sameer scored 14 points in the final match. Young trainees of Lucknow's Play'n Fit Tennis Academy Tejas Singh and Manas Patel of Lucknow won the doubles title at the All India Ranking Tennis Championship Series tournament for the age group 12 and 14 in Bihar. Manas and Tejas defeated the pair of Atharva Aditya and Arpit Anand 6-1, 6-1 in the pre-quarterfinals, No. 1 seeds Abir Ranjan and Sarthak Anand 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 in the quarterfinals, and Sairansh Jha and Sunay Mandal 6-4, 6-4 in the semi-finals to reach the final.
