LUCKNOW, Oct. 17 -- It's going to be do-or-die for former champions Uttar Pradesh when they take on Assam in their last Elite Group A league match of the Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy on Friday, at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
With two losses and two wins, Uttar Pradesh have eight points and currently standing at third position behind Rajasthan (12 pts) and Punjab (16 pts), and they will be required not only to win the game against Assam, but with a good margin as Maharashtra also with eight points have a chance to make it to knockouts.
In their last round of matches, Maharashtra take on Punjab, whereas Rajasthan meet Delhi also on Friday. Much was expected from Uttar Pradesh after they defeated Maharashtra by 84 runs in the opening encounter, but two consecutive losses against Punjab by 16 runs and then Rajasthan by nine wickets pushed them back.
Though Uttar Pradesh bounced back superbly, notching up a four-wicket win over Delhi on Wednesday, they still a win and luck too to qualify for the knockout as only two teams from the group will make it to the knockouts and Punjab have already qualified with 16 points.

They will be playing their last game against table-topper Vidarbha (16 pts) at Mohali on Friday. Mumbai and Baroda too have 16 points each and all top three teams have a chance to make the cut for the knockout.
