UP Bar Council finds fake docus in large numbers
LUCKNOW, Aug. 20 -- As the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh takes the verification process of documents of around 2.5 lakh advocates forward, several thousands of them are on the verge of losing their licence to practice law after their academic certificates were found fake.
The verification process of documents was initiated after directives from the Bar Council of India to all state Bar Councils. The verification process is being coordinated from the Bar Council's office in Prayagraj. Across the country, the verification process of around 17 lakh advocates is underway.
"The verification process of documents submitted by advocates is underway. Around 70 percent of the work is over. During the process, several thousands fake documents have been found. A list is being prepared and their licence will be revoked," said advocate Shreenath Tripathi, member of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh.
The UP Bar Council has convened a meeting on August 23-24 at its Prayagraj office to discuss the ongoing verification work and pending election of the Bar Council. The last election of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh was held in July 2018. The five-year tenure of 25 members of the Bar Council is over and elections are overdue. "A meeting of the Bar Council will be convened on August 23-24 in Prayagraj. We are ready to hold elections," said advocate Prashant Singh 'Atal', member and co-chairman, Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh.
"The verification process is underway. Registration of all such advocates will be revoked whose certificates have been found to be fake," he added. The Bar Council of India has directed all State Bar Councils to provide detailed reports on their verification process so that appropriate action could be taken....
