UP ATS nabs 3 Mumbai youths over alleged terror funding
LUCKNOW, Sept. 22 -- The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Saturday night detained three youths from Bhiwandi city in Thane district, around 20 km from Mumbai, for allegedly raising funds linked to terror financing, senior police officials said on Sunday.
Officials said the youths, all about 22 years old, were taken into custody from Shanti Nagar police station limits and their details were entered at the local police station before they were moved for legal proceedings. They are being interrogated regarding the alleged collection and transfer of funds, with further information to be shared after verification.
According to police sources, the accused had allegedly collected about Rs 3 lakh meant for Palestinians and channelled it through their contacts in UP, who then transferred the money abroad without authorisation. A detailed probe into the network will follow their questioning, officials added.
