Lucknow, Aug. 5 -- The UP ATS has arrested two persons on charges of propagating anti-national activities through a WhatsApp group in which a large number of Pakistani nationals were members. Those arrested have been identified as Ajmal Ali, a native of village Dehra in Amroha district and Osama Maaz Sheikh of Thane district, Maharashtra. Ali was arrested on August 1 and Sheikh was arrested on Monday. According to the UP ATS, it was keeping vigil on anti-national elements, and in this process, it came across a WhatsApp group called 'Reviving Islam', which has approximately 400 Pakistani nationals as members, including three administrators. During the probe, it was found that a number from Uttar Pradesh was also linked to this group. It was issued to Ajmal Ali, son of Asgar Khan, a resident of village Dehra, Amroha district. He was propagating anti-national sentiments and anti-non-Muslim sentiments through various social media platforms, said the ATS on Monday. The suspect was summoned to the ATS headquarters in the state capital on August 1 for questioning, where he admitted his crime, added the ATS. Besides the 'Reviving Islam' group, Ali was in contact with Pakistani individuals on other social platforms, said the ATS. During questioning, Ali revealed that he was connected with an Instagram ID belonging to Dr Usama Maj Shekh, a resident of Badlapur village of Thane district, Maharashtra. Ali considered Dr Usama as his senior and mentor. Dr Usama used to communicate anti-India messages via Instagram and Signal app and talked about imposing Sharia law in India, said the ATS. In this connection, a case was registered on August 1 under sections 148/152 BNS at ATS Police Station, Lucknow. Dr Usama Maj Shekh was arrested from Badlapur village in Thane district, Maharashtra, on Monday. Both accused were in contact with Pakistani individuals through various social platforms....
