LUCKNOW, Sept. 11 -- On World Suicide Prevention Day, director general of police (UP-112), Neera Rawat, honoured 225 police response vehicle (PRV) personnel and three call-takers for their exceptional efforts in preventing suicides and saving lives. According to UP Police, since the inception of the UP-112 integrated emergency service in 2017, PRVs responded to over 41,580 suicide-related calls, rushing to scenes of possible suicides. Their prompt action, coupled with first aid and CPR training, helped prevent many tragedies. Between January 1 and August 31, 2025 alone, UP-112 received 4,895 suicide attempt calls, with PRV teams successfully intervening to protect lives. On Wednesday, the DG praised the honoured personnel for their courage and sensitivity, noting that "UP-112 remains committed to its motto 'Always Ready in Your Service', delivering swift emergency support across the state." Three call-takers were specially recognised for life-saving counselling: Shivani Rai persuaded a distressed caller not to commit suicide over domestic disputes and immediately dispatched police assistance. Another officer handled a case in which a woman consumed poison after family harassment, guiding the caller and ensuring PRV intervention saved her life. Safina, stationed in Prayagraj, calmed a caller who already ingested poison, kept him engaged on the line, and arranged police and ambulance support in time....
