India, Sept. 30 -- PRAYAGRAJ/VARANASI Two brothers involved in cattle smuggling were injured in a police encounter near a canal in Inayat Patti village under Utraon police station area in Prayagraj on Monday, around 11:15 am. Both were admitted to the hospital following leg injuries sustained in retaliatory police firing. Police said the team, returning from an investigation into cow smuggling and slaughter, was fired upon by smugglers hiding in bushes near the canal. In response, police fired back, injuring Naseem Ahmed and Aleem Ahmed. A pistol, a revolver, four cartridges, and two empty shells were recovered. One other accused escaped. The injured were first treated at CHC Saidabad and referred to SRN Hospital. Police reported that the smugglers fired six to seven rounds at the team. DCP (Trans Ganga) Kuldeep Singh Gunawat stated that Naseem Ahmed has three criminal cases, while Aqeel Ahmed has two. Both have prior jail records for cow slaughter and violations under the Arms Act. Mau police arrest cow smugglers: In a separate incident near Hafizpur bridge on Monday, Mau Police arrested two men, Dilshad Qureshi, alias Mallu, and Rehan, alias Sheru, after a chase. SP Mau, Elamaran G, said the police acted after receiving information that the men, whose video of slaughtering prohibited meat had gone viral, were travelling to Ghazipur on a bike to sell the meat. Chiraiyakot police teams, led by Inspector Yogesh Yadav, intercepted them near the Sirsa turn. The suspects tried to flee, lost control of the bike, and fell.
