KANPUR, Nov. 15 -- The Kanpur Electricity Supply Company (KESCo) has rolled out a special relief scheme offering 100% waiver on surcharge for domestic and commercial consumers with 1 kW and 2 kW connections. The initiative targets nearly 28,000 consumers who collectively owe Rs 83.84 crore in unpaid electricity bills. Managing director, KESCo, Samuel P said the scheme, introduced by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), is "entirely different" from earlier one-time settlement offers. Consumers can register in three phases, opting to clear dues either in equal monthly instalments or in a single payment. Those choosing to settle the amount upfront will receive an additional rebate-25% in the first phase, 20% in the second, and 15% in the third-on the original dues. Calling it a "one-time opportunity", Samuel P urged eligible consumers to take advantage of the relief window. He added that individuals facing charges of electricity theft will also be covered under the scheme, widening the scope of the relief effort.
