Universities must drive climate policy, says BHU V-C at Energy Conclave
VARANASI, Sept. 22 -- Banaras Hindu University (BHU) vice-chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi emphasised that effective policy interventions must originate from universities, where scholars and researchers are at the forefront of knowledge creation.
Issues such as carbon credits, climate change and environmental sustainability, he noted, are no longer distant policy concepts but are actively being addressed through the research and outreach initiatives of institutions like BHU.
Delivering the presidential address at the Energy Conclave 2025, Prof Chaturvedi urged academic departments to move beyond their traditional roles and contribute meaningfully to building a sustainable society. He stressed that universities must not remain confined to teaching and publishing but should act as incubators of change, fostering future generations with forward-thinking ideas and socially relevant projects.
