LUCKNOW, May 30 -- A 25-over-per-side cricket match where all in the 'Playing XI' get to show their batting and bowling mettle is something unique and entertaining too for everyone. One such event, 'JNT Cup', is being organised in Kanpur, in memory of former social worker and cricket lover Jagat Narayan Tiwari. Organised under the auspices of the JNT Sports Welfare Foundation (JNTSWF), the tournament, which is meant for under-12 boys, has now entered its 13th year, and will culminate on June 8, at the Kanpur South Ground in Kidwai Nagar . "Even this year, we got a huge response to the event as 597 children appeared in the three-day trials and after thorough scrutiny, we picked 180 boys to form 12 teams for the tournament," Ahmed Ali Khan, one of the directors of JNTSWF said on Thursday. He also said that another uniqueness of the event is its structure, as every team will play five league matches and all the teams are bound to make all their 11 players bat and bowl during the match. "It is mandatory for all teams to let all 11 players, including batters and bowlers get a chance to showcase their talent, and it's a kind of trial also as in the last two league matches only selected players will play," added Khan. "Through this process, we allow everyone to get a chance in the first three league matches. This time, we have decided to conduct the event under lights too from the quarterfinal onwards," he further said. The JNT Club was established in 1983 by Jagat Narayan Tiwari himself and then only cricketers from Kanpur were allowed to play in the event of the club, but as time passed, the JNT Cup attracted almost every top cricketer of the state, including Team India's Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav, Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla, and others. Interestingly, the event gets financial support from a few well-connected people, including one Asad Kamal Iraqi, chairman of Leather Council of the zone and Prabodh Sharma, who bring in the resources from a few top cricket clubs in the world, including Liverpool etc. "Initially, the JNT Club was meant for cricketers of Mirpur area but later on it expanded its reach to every cricketer from Kanpur before opening the gates for everyone in the state. People like Asad Kamal, Prabodh Sharma, Sanjay Tewari and Sanjay Shukla are old cricketers of the city and they have been supporting the event for the last 13 years," said Khan. "One of our directors got the idea of holding an event for under-12 boys while watching a similar event in Mumbai many years ago, and he brought this idea here. Today, our event has been feeding the junior cricket teams of Uttar Pradesh in domestic trophies and it's really a big service to the game of cricket," said Khan, popularly known as Talib Bhai....
