LUCKNOW, June 29 -- A 30-year-old man, Shabir, was stabbed to death in the Madeyganj area of Lucknow on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Police suspect the killing was an act of revenge, linked to an old rivalry involving a 2017 murder case in which Shabir was an accused. DCP Central Ashish Srivastava said on Saturday that Shabir, originally from Rae Bareli and currently residing in Mumbai, had come to Lucknow to attend a court hearing related to the same case. Around 2:30 am, police received information about a body lying in an empty plot in Madeyganj. Officers rushed to the scene, recovered the body, and identified it as Shabir. He had sustained multiple stab wounds. Srivastava confirmed that it was a case of homicide, and the body was sent for postmortem. "We received information around 2:30 am on Saturday. Our teams reached the spot and found the body. Initial investigations suggest an old enmity as the motive behind the murder," he said. Based on a complaint filed by Shabir's brother Wasim, police have registered a case of murder and launched a probe. Wasim alleged that Munna Ghosi, father of Pappu-the man Shabir was accused of killing in 2017-along with his associates, murdered Shabir in retaliation. "My brother had come from Mumbai for a court hearing. Late at night, he went missing, and later we were informed of his death. He was brutally stabbed," Wasim told the police, according to Srivastava. Srivastava added that Shabir was currently out on bail in connection with Pappu's 2017 murder in Raebareli. Wasim has named Munna Ghosi and others as suspects, alleging they carried out the murder to settle old scores. To catch the culprits, police have deployed five teams from Raebareli and Lucknow. "We are scanning CCTV footage from the area and analysing phone records. Teams are conducting raids to apprehend the accused," a senior police official said. Police are also investigating whether Shabir was being followed after his arrival in Lucknow. The postmortem report is awaited and is expected to reveal more details about the nature of the attack. The case has raised concerns over the safety of undertrials and witnesses attending court hearings. Police have assured that strict action will be taken, and arrests are expected soon....
