Jhansi, Sept. 16 -- The family members of an undertrial created a huge uproar in Hamirpur, on Monday, after the undertrial died inside the district jail on Sunday. The family members accused the jail authorities of excessive beating, leading to the death of the undertrial. The deceased, Anil Kumar Tiwari, 33, was brought to jail on Thursday after an arrest warrant was issued in an SC/ST Act case. On the other hand, the jail officials claimed that Anil fell ill due to low sugar levels and died while being taken to the hospital. Anil, a resident of Surajpur, in Sadar Kotwali, was an accused in a dispute with a neighbour 10 years ago. His cousin Sumit mentioned that there was a conflict with a local Dalit family, leading to charges against Anil for assault and abuse under the SC/ST Act. After the dispute, Anil started working as a guard in Delhi, where his father also worked as a labourer. Due to living in Delhi, Anil was not attending court hearings, resulting in a warrant against him. Recently, after his return from Delhi, Anil was arrested by the Kotwali police and sent to jail on September 11. The next day, his wife, Pooja, visited him, reassured him about getting bail soon, and returned home. However, the sudden news of Anil's death on Sunday caused an uproar in the family. Sumit said that if his brother was ill, the jail administration should have informed them. Instead, they were informed of his death. Anil was married and had two children. His post-mortem examination was performed on Monday after the arrival of his father from Delhi. Additional SP, Hamirpur, MK Gupta, said that the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and once the report comes, only then can something be said. He also mentioned that a magisterial inquiry is being set up. Meanwhile, the family members sat on a demonstration on Monday near the jail, claiming that he was severely beaten by the jail authorities and that he had bruise marks on his body. The jam was opened only after the intervention of the Sadar MLA Manoj Kumar Prajapati. Jail superintendent Manjiv Vishwakarma said that Anil was brought to jail on Thursday. He was a drug addict. On Sunday, he started behaving abnormally. During initial medical investigations inside the jail, his sugar level came down to 41. He was rushed to the district hospital, but on the way, he succumbed.HTC...
