Under pressure from teen to marry, Class 11 girl hangs self
PRAYAGRAJ, March 19 -- A Class 11 girl, who attended a local college in the area, hung herself inside her house after facing immense pressure to marry from a teenage boy belonging to a specific community. The police have registered a case and have sent the body for a post-mortem examination.
On Tuesday evening, the 16-year-old victim, from a village in Pratapgarh, appeared withdrawn and quiet after returning home from school. Concerned, her family members opened the door and entered the room, only to find her hanging from the ceiling using a noose made from a saree. The family members brought her down, but by then, she had already breathed her last.
Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene. Family members submitted a written complaint to the police, alleging that a teenage boy from their village belonging to a specific community used to frequently call their daughter on her mobile phone and harass her. They alleged that he was coercing her into marrying him, and driven to despair by this harassment, their daughter committed suicide. Acting on the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case against the teenager.
A violent clash broke out between two groups in Nasirpur village under Pipri police station, in Kaushambi, after a dispute over the killing of a dog turned into a full-scale brawl. Several people from both sides were injured during the fight, which also involved stone-pelting.
Following a written complaint from the Makhdumpur police outpost, a case has been registered under multiple sections, and an investigation is underway.
The incident took place on Monday evening when a dog belonging to villager Mithilesh Nishad was sitting behind his house. At that moment, another resident, Sanjay Nishad, allegedly beat the dog to death with sticks.
The act triggered a heated argument between the two men, which quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
According to the complaint, Vinod Nishad, Ravindra Nishad, Anil Nishad, and Pramod Nishad joined Sanjay and attacked Mithilesh with bricks, causing serious injuries to his face besides breaking three teeth.
A young woman, Janaki, from the opposite side also suffered a deep injury near her eye. Several unidentified people from both factions reportedly joined the fight, hurling stones and issuing threats.
The police have filed a case against seven named individuals along with other unidentified persons....
