Jaipur, Dec. 5 -- An under-19 Rajasthan state women's cricketer was granted bail on Thursday, a day after she was detained for allegedly driving a speeding four-wheeler that hit multiple vehicles in Jaipur, claiming the life of a 23-year-old man and seriously injuring another, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Bhavya Choudhary (18), was detained on Wednesday, a day after the incident which took place near the Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha. On Thursday morning, the accused secured bail from a trial court, officials said.
"The incident took place at around 10.15pm on Tuesday. The car was being run at a very high speed due to which it lost control and hit three two-wheelers at the assembly road," ACP Traffic (South), Ameer Hussain Ahmed said, adding that the accused fled the spot while abandoning the car.
Police said the car was heading towards the Rajasthan Cricket Academy (RCA) at SMS Stadium from Jagatpura. "The car is registered in the name of Priya Choudhary, who runs a cricket academy in the city. However, her daughter, Bhavya Choudhary, who is also part of the state women's cricket team (U-19), was driving at the time of the accident," Ahmed said.
The ACP said that the driver of one of the two-wheelers, identified as law student Paras Jain (23), was killed on the spot, while his relative Nandini Sharma (26) sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the SMS hospital for treatment.
Police said that Bhavya's car dragged Jain for about 500 metres on the road after it hit his scooter. "Later, she abandoned the car near a lane and fled the spot. We formed teams to search for her. We detained her from her house on Wednesday night," Ahmed said.
A case has been lodged against Bhavya under section 106 (negligent driving) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). "She applied for a bail in the court on Thursday morning which was granted as it is a bailable offence. The court has directed her to cooperate with the police during the investigation," the ACP added....
