Lucknow, Dec. 11 -- A man allegedly attempted to sexually assault a six-year-old girl near her house in the city's Gudamba area, police said. The child was able to escape as the accused, who is her uncle by relation, had passed out after consuming alcohol near the Kukrail jungle. She was found about a kilometre away from her residence. According to police, the incident took place on Sunday evening (December 7). Ramesh, who lives next doors to the minor's family, lured the child with the promise of 'kabab rolls' and a ride on his e-rickshaw. After feeding her a kabab roll, he took her to the secluded area in the Kukrail forest, where he allegedly harassed the child. Around 3:30 am on Monday (December 8), a passer-by heard the child crying, spotted her near the unconscious man and an abandoned e-rickshaw, and immediately alerted the Gudamba police. According to police, they recognized the girl from a missing person report filed by her parents the previous evening. "The child identified Ramesh to her family and the police, leading to his immediate arrest. During interrogation, Ramesh confessed to taking the girl to the jungle with the intent to commit the crime, but claimed he fell asleep due to excessive drinking," said SHO Gudamba Prabhatesh Srivastava. He also confirmed that Ramesh, a frequent visitor to the girl's home because of the familial relation, has been sent to jail. A case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and IPC has been registered. The girl's father is a daily-wage worker. The family had searched for the child after she suddenly disappeared around 5 pm on Sunday and approached police when they couldn't find her....
