Umpires, scorers in Uttar Pradesh likely to get better pay
LUCKNOW, Sept. 25 -- A raise in the wages of the umpires and scorers, who are on the rolls of Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) or the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), is on the cards as the umpires committee of the UPCA has proposed this to the Apex Council for approval.
If all goes well, the proposal is expected to be approved at the upcoming Apex Council meeting of the UPCA on Tuesday. The revised match fee structure suggests a hike of Rs 300 to Rs 500 for different categories.
"It's just a formality and it will be a big help to almost 100 match officials of different categories in the state," UPCA's umpires committee chief Manoj Pundeer told HT on Wednesday.
"UPCA has a strong set up for umpires and scorers at all levels, and consistent efforts are being made for the betterment of our technical officials," he said, adding, "That's the reason as now we have a number of umpires and scorers on the BCCI panel."
Once the proposal is approved, the state level umpires will start getting Rs 2000 per day in the domestic matches, whereas the scorers' fee will be raised from Rs 1300 to Rs 1600 per day. The umpires at the BCCI panel will see a hike of Rs 500 in their fee from Rs 2000 to Rs 2500, whereas the BCCI panel scorers will be getting Rs 2000 per day against the existing Rs 1600 per day.
Pundeer also informed that a raise has also been proposed for the umpires and scorers for the All India, state level tournaments and district premier league matches. "A raise of Rs 500 in their existing fee is a good idea and it will motivate them to stay focused on their duties."
Currently UPCA has six umpires and equal number of scorers on the BCCI panel, whereas the number of state panel umpires has risen to 47, including seven girls. There are 20 scorers on the state panel, including three girls.
"Only recently, the umpires committee has removed 22 non-active technical officials from its list. Most of them were busy with some other assignments or not getting time from their jobs to do scoring and umpiring, so we decided to remove all such non-active officials," he added.
He also informed about a major change in the facilities for the cricket;'s technical officials in Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming season. "From the new domestic season, all the technical officials, both scorers and umpires of UPCA will be getting their official accreditations so that they could show their identity wherever they go," he said.
"Besides this, all the umpires and scorers on the UPCA's list will be given personalised T-shirts (one coloured and one white), one bag and two hats of two different colours. This will ensure the uniformity in dress code of the cricket officials in Uttar Pradesh," he further said.
Currently, two former cricketers of Uttar Pradesh Rohit Prakash and Parvinder Singh have been on the BCCI's list of match referees, whereas another former UP cricketer Shivakant Shukla has recently topped the match referee's exam of the BCCI but while representing Railways....
