GORAKHPUR, Sept. 1 -- Uday Borwanker, director general of RDSO and an officer of the Indian Railway Management Service, has been assigned additional charge as general manager of North Eastern Railway (NER). He will take over on Monday, succeeding Saumya Mathur, who retired on August 30. Borwanker brings with him over 35 years of service and leadership across several key railway zones and ministries, according to NER's chief public relations officer (CPRO) Pankaj Kumar Singh. He was selected by the UPSC in 1985 under the Special Class Railway Apprentices Scheme. He studied mechanical engineering at IRIMEE, Jamalpur, and later earned an MBA from Mumbai. He also received advanced training in Electronics (IIT Kharagpur), business management (ISB Hyderabad and Bocconi, Milan), and civil engineering (University of Graz, Austria). He has spearheaded initiatives such as implementation of Kavach (Train Collision Avoidance System), the rollout of Vande Bharat and Hydrogen-powered trains, and the integration of AI, drone-based surveillance, and Driver Advisory Systems (DAS). htc...
