Lucknow, Sept. 14 -- Uttar Pradesh minister of state for horticulture, agricultural marketing, agri-foreign trade and agri-export (independent charge), Dinesh Pratap Singh, on Friday directed officials to prepare a rooftop gardening scheme to promote cultivation of vegetables, fruits, medicinal plants and spices in urban areas. Reviewing the plan at the directorate of horticulture, Singh said rooftop gardening is a modern method to enhance greenery, natural beauty and health benefits in limited spaces, while providing citizens with organically grown vegetables and fruits. The minister instructed that a detailed proposal be prepared with technical support from IIVR Varanasi for approval by the Union government. "As a pilot project, the scheme will be launched in Lucknow, Varanasi and Gorakhpur," he said.
