U.P. leads in compensatory afforestation
LUCKNOW, May 29 -- Uttar Pradesh has recorded the highest compensatory afforestation in India for 2024-25, planting trees on 32,933 hectares-86% of its target-using CAMPA funds, a state government release said Wednesday. Major contributors include Shivalik, Kashi Wildlife, and Varanasi Forest Divisions. CAMPA funds also supported soil conservation, water purification, forest vehicles, and patrolling outposts. A Jatayu Breeding Centre was set up in Maharajganj. Of the 38,092-hectare target, only 3,261 hectares remain. For 2025-26, afforestation is planned on 1,896 hectares, alongside projects like solar pumps, rescue centres, and high-tech nurseries to boost conservation and environmental protection....
