Dehradun, June 21 -- Uttarakhand Forest Department has started a probe into allegedly inflated proposals for Miyawaki plantation projects submitted by the Dehradun and Mussoorie forest divisions, raising concerns over financial mismanagement and lack of technical oversight. Dhananjay Mohan, Head of the Forest Department (HoFF) and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) said , "I have directed PCCF( Planning, finance), Kapil Lal to investigate the matter. He has started his probe, and after he submits his findings, appropriate action will be taken in the matter" The development came after Sanjiv Chaturvedi, Chief Conservator of Forests (Working Plan), flagged the issue, in his letter to HoFF, that a proposal worth Rs.52 lakh was sent for approval to undertake Miyawaki plantation on just one hectare of land under the Dehradun Forest Division for a three-year period (from 2024-25 to 2026-27 ). "This may be the most expensive plantation proposal in the history of India, and it demands a thorough investigation," Chaturvedi wrote in his letter. He further pointed out that a similar proposal from the Mussoorie Forest Division involved a five-year Miyawaki plantation plan costing Rs.4.25 crore....
