Dehradun/Haridwar, June 4 -- The opposition Congress said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government was compelled to suspend two IAS officers and one PCS officer in connection with the Haridwar land purchase irregularities due to pressure created by them through protests. The party said the three senior officials shouldn't have been attached to the personnel and vigilance department as they can influence the probe. Garima Mehra Dasauni, chief spokesperson for the state Congress, said, "A few months ago, the land purchase scam in the Haridwar Municipal Corporation came to light, involving the embezzlement of crores of rupees. Land valued at a lower price was shown as having been bought at an inflated rate,"said in a statement. "(Secretary) Ranveer Singh was appointed to investigate the entire matter. The investigation has been completed and the report is ready. Chief minister Dhami has suspended two IAS officers....it is a commendable step. However, credit also goes to the Congress party, as our workers were actively protesting against this scam in the Haridwar Municipal Corporation. The government was under pressure and it was compelled to take this strict action," she added. The BJP said it is yet another example of the BJP government's zero tolerance policy against corruption. Manveer Singh Chauhan, state BJP media in-charge, said, "This is yet another example of the BJP government's zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. Chief minister Dhami has repeatedly made it clear that corruption will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against those involved, regardless of their position." He further added, "Why should Congress be given the credit? It was Chief minister Dhami who took cognisance of the matter, not because the opposition raised any complaint. The Congress is habitual of politicising every issue." Haridwar mayor Kiran Jaissal said, "We had raised concerns about the irregularities in the Sarai land purchase during a municipal board meeting, which brought the issue to light." "Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has once again demonstrated his zero-tolerance stance on corruption," the mayor added....
