Dehradun, June 3 -- The special task force (STF) of Uttarakhand police has arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly printing counterfeit QR codes, outer packaging and labels of reputed pharmaceutical companies, a police official said on Monday. Senior superintendent of police (STF) Navneet Singh Bhullar said, "We were receiving complaints from various sources regarding printing of counterfeit QR codes and outer packaging of pharmaceutical companies. Fake medicines were being packed inside these counterfeit outer packaging materials in various states. It was posing a threat to the lives of people. We (STF) received instructions from director general of police Deepam Seth for prevention and arrest of the culprits. I had asked my teams to ensure strict action against them." "We received inputs that the accused, identified as Sanjay Kumar, residing in the Byakhala area and operating in the jurisdiction of Selaqui police station, was involved in printing fake QR codes, outer packaging and labels of reputed pharmaceutical companies. Acting on this, we arrested him from Selaqui area in Dehradun on June 1. We also recovered a large quantity of counterfeit outer packaging, labels, and medicine wrappers from his possession," the SSP said. During interrogation, he revealed that the counterfeit material of reputed pharmaceutical companies like Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Zydus, Glenmark, Alkem, etc was being printed at three printing presses in Dehradun, he said.
