U'khand man alleges brother forcibly taken into Russian army
India, Sept. 23 -- A man from Udham Singh Nagar district has alleged that his elder brother, who went to Russia on a study visa last month, was forcibly recruited into the Russian Army and sent to the Ukraine war front.
He has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to intervene and secure his safe return to the country.
Deepu Maurya, 20, a resident of Kusmoth village in Shaktifarm, said his 30-year-old brother Rakesh Maurya had travelled to Russia in August.
"On August 30, he called me via messenger and said he was in a difficult condition. He told me that the Russian Army had seized his passport and documents, handed him an army uniform, and sent him for military training. He was being deployed to Ukraine," Deepu alleged.
He said that was the last time he heard from Rakesh.
"Since then, there has been no contact with him. We are extremely worried about his safety. Before all communication stopped, he sent me two photographs dressed in military uniform, holding a weapon and a wireless set," he added.
Deepu, whose family originally belongs to Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh now lives in Shaktifarm.
His father works in the Sitarganj industrial unit. Deepu said he has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs to bring his brother back from Russia.
"After local and social media reports highlighted our case, state government officials contacted us. But we are still waiting for a positive response from the MEA. Nothing much has been done so far," he said.
Manikant Mishra, senior superintendent of police, Udham Singh Nagar, said he had no official information on the matter.
"No higher authorities have enquired about this case so far," he said....
