Two youths killed, two others injured after truck crushes them
PRAYAGRAJ, May 23 -- A young man and his friend returning from cousin's 'haldi' ceremony were crushed by a speeding truck, late on Wednesday night. Both died on the spot. Two other people who accompanied them, were injured in the accident. On receiving information, police recovered the truck and took the driver into custody.
Vinay (24) had gone to attend the haldi ceremony along with Neeraj Patel (18), Ashish Patel (21) and Govind (32).
Around 1.30am on Wednesday night, all four were returning home on two separate bikes. Vinay and Neeraj were on one bike while Ashish and Govind were on another bike. Vinay's bike ran out of petrol near Mirpur Gate of Raniganj on the Varanasi-Lucknow highway.
Both Vinay and Neeraj parked the bike on roadside and were searching for the nearest petrol station. Ashish and Govind, on the other bike, also parked their bike nearby.
As the four were searching for nearest petrol station, a truck approaching from Badshahpur side crushed Vinay and Neeraj while Ashish and Govind, who were standing nearby were injured.
On receiving information, Raniganj police stopped the truck and detained the driver. All the four victims were brought to Trauma Centre where Vinay and Neeraj were declared dead.
Ashish was referred to Prayagraj due to serious injuries. The Raniganj police sent both the bodies for postmortem.
SHO of Raniganj police station Arjun Singh said that the truck had been seized. Action is being taken in the matter, he added....
