Two women sustain burn injuries after transformer catches fire in Gorakhpur
GORAKHPUR, June 16 -- At least two women suffered serious burn injuries after a transformer near a shopping mall in the Gorakhnath area suddenly exploded and caught fire, triggering panic in the locality for nearly an hour.
According to officials, two nursing students - Shilpi Giri from Deoria and Sanju - were injured after hot oil from the transformer splashed on them. Both were rushed to BRD Medical College for treatment, where their condition is reported to be stable.
The incident took place around 9:30 pm near a hospital and a shopping mall, not very far from the Gorakhnath Temple. Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion, followed by thick smoke and flames engulfing the transformer.
Residents expressed anger toward the electricity department, alleging poor maintenance and negligence.
After the incident, officials from the power department, including the superintending engineer and executive engineer visited BRD Medical College to enquire about the condition of the injured and to assess the cause of the incident. An investigation into the incident and the condition of the transformer is underway.
Authorities have assured that further safety checks and maintenance will be carried out to avoid such accidents in the future....
