Two teenagers drown in Chhoti Gandak in Deoria
GORAKHPUR, April 27 -- Two teenagers drowned while bathing in the Chhoti Gandak river at Chauki Ghat under the Bhatpar Rani police station area in Deoria district on Sunday. Two other boys accompanying them managed to come out safely.
According to officials, the incident occurred when four teenagers had gone to the river to bathe. While in the water, they reportedly moved into a deeper stretch and began to drown.
Despite an immediate alarm raised by locals present at the ghat, two of the boys could not be rescued in time.
Station house officer (SHO) Abhishek Rai confirmed the incident, stating, "The boys had gone to bathe in the river and appear to have entered a deep section, which led to the drowning.
Their bodies were recovered after a search operation and have been sent for post-mortem examination."
The deceased have been identified as Atul Kuswaha (15) and Krishna Gupta (14), residents of Kotila village under Bhatpar Rani Police Station limits.
Police officials said that local divers and rescue teams were deployed immediately after receiving information. However, despite swift action, the two teenagers could not be saved. Further legal formalities are underway.
Authorities have urged people to exercise caution while bathing in rivers, especially at unguarded ghats....
