Two teen girls escape Pratapgarh 'One Stop Centre'; 2 cops suspended
PRAYAGRAJ, July 8 -- Two teenage girls fled from a government-run 'One Stop Centre' in Pratapgarh on Sunday night, prompting a police search and suspension of two female constables assigned to their security, police confirmed on Monday.
According to police, the escape occurred around 9 pm when one constable had left the facility due to illness and the other was briefly in the toilet. The girls reportedly took advantage of the situation and slipped out through the main gate, where a staff member, Vandana Yadav, was present.
The girls had been housed at the shelter for the past week after being rescued by Lalganj and Jethwara police in separate kidnapping cases. The centre, located near the Sai River in Bhuliyapur, is intended to provide support to women and girls affected by violence.
As per the sequence of events, the centre in-charge, Neerja Kumari, was in her room at the time of the incident. The girls quietly approached the gate and ran out. By the time police were alerted and reached the spot, the duo had disappeared. ASP (East) Shailendra Lal said a case was registered late Sunday night at Nagar Kotwali police station on the complaint of the centre in-charge.
