Two students injured in ceiling plaster collapse in school
Meerut, July 28 -- Two Class 5 students were injured after a portion of the ceiling plaster fell on them at a government primary school in Hapur district on Saturday.
Following the incident, the district magistrate ordered a probe into the incident amid concerns over the structural integrity of government school buildings. Also, fitness audits of all schools will be conducted.
The incident occurred around 11:30 am when the school was in session. It startled students, resulting in chaos as children ran out of the classroom in fear. School staff immediately rushed to assist the injured students and provided first aid before they were taken for further medical evaluation. Authorities confirmed that both children were now in stable condition.
DM Abhishek Pandey said, "We were informed that around 11:30 am on July 26, a portion of the plaster fell from the ceiling in a Class 5 classroom, injuring two children. They were promptly given first aid and are now healthy."
A fact-finding committee, comprising the local magistrate and engineers from the public works department (PWD), has been tasked with investigating how the school was certified fit for use and why the deteriorating condition of the classroom ceiling was not reported earlier.
"The individuals responsible for issuing the fitness certificate to the school will be identified, and appropriate action will be taken," said Pandey. "Also, we have begun re-evaluating the structural fitness of all schools in the district," the DM added.
The Hapur incident comes a day after seven children died and several others were injured in a roof collapse in a primary school in Rajasthan's Jhalawar....
