two postal officials held in Jalaun for graft
LUCKNOW, Dec. 18 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested two postal officials in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes, senior officials said on Wednesday.
Those arrested have been identified as Pratik Bhargava, Sub-Divisional Inspector, Sub-Division Post Office, Konch, and Amir Hassan, Branch Post Master of Chandurra Post Office.
The CBI said a case was registered on Monday after a complaint alleged a demand of Rs.15,000 to relieve the complainant after his transfer, clear his October salary and re-verify his caste certificate. The demand was later reduced, and part payment allegedly taken earlier.
On Tuesday, the CBI laid a trap and caught both officials red-handed while accepting the remaining Rs.5,000.
A court in Bahraich has convicted five accused in a case of illegal tree felling in a prohibited forest and wildlife-related offences, sentencing each of them to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs.17,000 each. The judgment was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge (FTC-II) Anil Kumar, Bahraich.
