Silchar, Oct. 11 -- Two personal security officers (PSOs) of Zubeen Garg have been arrested in connection with the singer's death in Singapore last month, the police said on Friday. The officers were suspended earlier this week after financial irregularities worth over Rs.1 crore were found in their accounts. Garg, who had gone to attend the North East India Festival (NEIF) in Singapore, died while swimming in the sea on September 19. Since the singer's death, over 60 first information reports, including one by his family, have been filed in Assam and seven have been arrested. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged conspiracy behind Garg's death arrested Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya on Thursday night, and were produced before a district court on Friday that remanded them to five days in police custody for further interrogation. According to officials familiar with the matter, Bora and Baishya were deputed by the government as part of Garg's security detail. Both the officers were suspended by the Assam Police on October 8 after investigators detected unexplained financial transactions exceeding Rs.1 crore in their personal bank accounts. According to officials, Bora's account showed transactions of around Rs.70 lakh, while Baishya had over Rs.40 lakh over the last four to five years, far beyond their known sources of income. Officials added that these transactions have become central to the probe, as investigators look into whether the money handled through the PSOs' accounts had any link to the circumstances surrounding Garg's death. However, family members of the two officers claimed that Garg used their bank accounts to store and distribute funds he often kept aside for charitable purposes and to help the underprivileged. Garg's wife, Garima Saikia Garg, also confirmed that her husband had indeed entrusted some money with his PSOs, but insisted that it was done purely for philanthropic reasons....
