Two more arrested in Pilibhit over Israel boycott posters
MEERUT, May 3 -- Police have arrested two more people in Pilibhit district in connection with the recent circulation of posters calling for a boycott of Israeli goods across parts of the city, authorities said.
One of the accused, Adnan, is a Jan Seva Kendra operator who allegedly printed the posters, while the other, Akeeb, was reportedly involved in their distribution. Both were arrested on Thursday and booked for charges related to disturbing public peace, police said.
The controversy surfaced on April 22 in the Chhota Khudaganj locality, where the Israeli flag was found painted on the road. Posters advocating a boycott of Israeli products had also been put up at various locations in the Kotwali and Sungarhi police station areas. Police teams from both jurisdictions acted swiftly to remove the posters and erase the painted flag. Acting on the orders of senior officials, authorities began identifying those behind the incident. On April 23, seven people were arrested and sent to jail after being booked for breach of peace.
The latest arrests were made on Thursday after police detained Akeeb, a resident of Mohalla Bhure Khan. During questioning, he revealed that he had arranged the printing of 20 posters through Adnan, who has been taken into custody. Kotwali incharge Rajeev Kumar Singh confirmed the arrests....
