Two more arrested in fake Aadhaar cards racket
LUCKNOW, Aug. 23 -- The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has made two more arrests in connection with a gang involved in creating fake Aadhaar cards and passports, said a press note shared by the police headquarters in Lucknow on Friday.
The accused, identified as Akshay Saini and Talib Ansari, both resident of Saharanpur, were apprehended from different locations, a senior police official said in the press note.
The official said Saini was arrested for his alleged involvement in creating fake documents while Talib was nabbed for his suspected role in promoting extremist ideologies and sharing sensitive information with Pakistani contacts.
He said the ATS investigation revealed that the gang was involved in creating fake Aadhaar cards and passports for economic gain. He said the accused were allegedly in contact with individuals from Pakistan and were sharing sensitive information. The gang used various social media platforms to spread extremist ideologies and recruit new members.
He said the ATS will apply for their police custody remand to interrogate them and extract more information related to the nefarious activities and intentions. He said the two accused have been booked in FIR registered under various sections of the BNS and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act at ATS police station in Lucknow. He said the ATS has seized several documents, including fake Aadhaar cards, passports, and laptops, from the accused. He said the ATS continues to investigate the case, and further arrests are expected as the probe unfolds.
Earlier, eight individuals were arrested in connection with the same gang. The ATS has been conducting raids and interrogations to uncover the entire network....
