Two men drown in Ganga in Haridwar
Haridwar, April 6 -- Two men from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh drowned in the Ganga in Haridwar on Sunday morning, police officials said.
According to police, the two men had arrived in Haridwar to take a dip in the Ganga and went to Dudhiya Bandh along the riverbank. While bathing in the river, they reportedly ventured into a deeper section of the stream and were swept away. Local residents present near the site said the flow and depth of the river at Dudhiya Bandh are comparatively high, as the location falls in the main stream of the Ganga.
Most devotees usually take a dip at designated ghats where iron railings and pipes are installed for safety. However, Dudhiya Bandh is an open stretch of the river with a wider and stronger current, said locals .Police officials said the control room received information about the incident soon after the two men went missing in the river. Following this, teams from the local police station and the Jal Police were immediately deployed for a search and rescue operation. The deceased were identified as Brijesh Kumar Tripathi (43) and Sachin Tyagi (39), both residents of Raj Nagar in Ghaziabad....
