Two men detained for attempted conversion in Chitrakoot
Kanpur, Oct. 12 -- Two men were detained by police in Chitrakoot's Ghunuva village on Saturday following allegations of attempted religious conversion. A third suspect reportedly fled the scene and remains untraceable.
According to SHO Rapiura Vinod Shukla Raipura, Bharat Verma and Ramvishal Savita, both residents of Ghunuva, were taken into custody from the spot.
"Their associate, identified as Mahesh, a resident of Hatwa village under Mau police area, managed to flee. Efforts are on to trace him," he said.
The police action came after members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal submitted a written complaint alleging that the accused had been pressuring economically weaker families in the village to convert to Christianity.
Shivendra Singh, district co-convenor of Bajrang Dal, and Ashwini Tiwari alleged in their complaint that the trio had been targeting about ten Hindu families over the past year.
The accused were allegedly offering money, making derogatory remarks about Hindu deities, and praising Jesus Christ to influence the families.
They further claimed that prayer meetings and Bible readings were being regularly held as part of the alleged conversion efforts. htc...
