Meerut, May 1 -- Two labourers lost their lives while two others got seriously injured when the dilapidated wall of a brick kiln collapsed in Dhaderu village, under the Charthawal police station area of Muzaffarnagar district on Tuesday. The incident sparked outrage among locals and the victims' families, who demanded accountability for the negligence of safety standards at the site. According to station house officer (SHO) Jasveer Singh, the deceased workers, identified as Rohit (22) and Ishwar (35), were killed instantly after getting buried under the rubble while removing bricks from the kiln. Two other workers, Pinku and Kiranpal, sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby community health centre for treatment. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the collapsed wall was in poor condition, and no safety measures or equipment had been provided to the workers. The tragedy sparked immediate unrest, with aggrieved family members and local residents staging a protest at the site, decrying the kiln's unsafe working conditions. Sub divisional magistrate Nikita Sharma and circle officer Devvrat Bajpai intervened and managed to pacify the protesters.
