Meerut, Dec. 8 -- Two people were killed and three others seriously injured late Saturday night after a speeding car went out of control on National Highway-9 in Hapur district, crossed the divider, and crashed into an SUV coming from the opposite direction. The incident occurred near Shiva Hotel in the Babugarh police station area. Police later removed both damaged vehicles to restore smooth traffic movement on the busy highway. According to police, Shakib, Gulzar, Mujeeb and Mauzzam, all residents of Solan village under Partapur police station in Meerut district, along with Israr from Meerut's Lisadi Gate, were returning from Moradabad in a car. As they approached the Shiva Hotel stretch on NH-9, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leap across the divider and collide head-on with an oncoming Scorpio. Babugarh police rushed to the scene after receiving information and transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Doctors declared Shakib and Mauzzam dead on arrival. The remaining injured were referred to a hospital in Meerut, where one of them continues to be in critical condition.
