Two killed, 40 students rescued as school bus overturns
KANPUR, Sept. 12 -- Two persons were killed and around 40 schoolchildren narrowly escaped tragedy when a private school bus overturned into a water-filled ditch after colliding with a motorcycle near Gopalpur village in Bhitargaon area on Thursday morning.
The accident occurred around 8.30 am when the bus, carrying students of a local inter college, hit a motorcycle and lost control. Two riders on the motorcycle died on the spot, while a young woman travelling with them sustained injuries.
Villagers rushed to the spot, broke the windows and rescued the children. Police said most students escaped with minor injuries, though one girl was seriously hurt and admitted to a local healthcare facility.
Police officials confirmed that while most of the children escaped with minor injuries, one girl was seriously hurt and admitted to a government healthcare facility in Bhitargaon. Station house officer, Saadh, Avneesh Kumar Singh said, "The father and son died on the spot, while the daughter has been injured. Further investigation is under way."
Following the incident, residents blocked the road, demanding action against the operators of the bus, which they alleged was an unlicensed vehicle....
